history

The Fred and Esther Dundee House was built by Albert McCloud in 1921. Fred A. Dundee owned a locksmith's shop in Portland ; he built the log cabin for himself. Dundee's business, known as the Fred Dundee Motor Car Repair and Machine Works , was located on Broadway in Flanders and later on Jefferson Street. Dundee was previously a racing car driver around the turn of the century. He drove White Motor Company racing cars .

The one and a half story house was designed by EE Green with a rustic appearance. Dundee Lodge was built around the same time. The building, also designed by Green, was used as a hotel. On June 6, 1985, the farm was entered on the National Register of Historic Places under the name Dundee Lodge .

Details

The farm is located in the foothills of the Northern Oregon Coast Range on Dundee Road northwest of Gaston, Oregon near Henry Hagg Lake in the western part of the county. All three buildings on the farm were built by EE Green in a rustic style. The one-and-a-half-story buildings were all built around 1921 and consist mainly of round logs on the outside, with some bricks being used. This gives the U-shaped main building the appearance of a log house . Inside, the round timbers are visible, some walls are paneled with wood and the open chimneys are made of bricks.
