Dunwu dacheng zhengli jue ( Chinese  顿悟 大乘 正理 决  - "The Doctrine of Sudden Enlightenment: Competition for the True Principles in Mahayana Buddhism "), in short: Zhenglijue (正理 决), is an important Chinese script on the history of Chan Buddhism (Japanese Zen ) by Wang Xi (王锡).

It was written at the end of the 8th century and holds the views of the two Buddhist schools, the School of Sudden Enlightenment (dunmenpai 顿 门派, the Southern School of Chan) and School of Gradual Enlightenment (jianmenpai 渐 门派, which were popular in Lhasa ( Tibet ) at the time of the Northern School of Chan). The School of Sudden Enlightenment is a school of Chinese Buddhism, and the School of Gradual Enlightenment is a school of Indian.

It is reported about the Chinese Chan master Moheyan (chin. 摩诃衍) who was asked by the Tibetan ruler Thrisong Detsen, as a representative of the school of sudden enlightenment, to go to Lhasa to meet with the Indian monk Kamalaśīla (chin. 莲华戒) to debate the School of Gradual Enlightenment (in the so-called Debate of bSam yas ), whereby the teaching of the School of Gradual Enlightenment has been refuted by the School of Sudden Enlightenment. However, according to Tibetan historical records, the School of Gradual Enlightenment was the winner. The dissemination of the teaching of Sudden Enlightenment was forbidden by Thrisong Detsen.

The work is preserved in Dunhuang manuscripts ( p. 2672, p. 4646). The Hong Kong scholar Jao Tsung-I (Rao Zongyi 饶宗颐) researched the work and published a critical edition entitled Xiantang jilin选 堂 集 林 (1982). Facsimiles of the manuscript are published in Taiwan in the Tripitaka Supplement ( Dazangjing bubian大 藏经 补编, 3.15) and in the Compendium of Contemporary Buddhism ( Xiandai Foxue daxi现代 佛学 大 系, 53). The Dunhuang manuscripts P. 21, 823 and 827 contain old Tibetan translations of the work. The French sinologist Paul Demiéville has done research on the "Council of Lhasa".
