Carmen Meinert
Carmen Meinert (* 1969 in Bad Oeynhausen ) is a German religious scholar.
Life
She studied Sinology , Tibetology and Geography at the University of Bonn . After completing her doctorate in 2001 with Wolfgang Kubin and Jens-Uwe Hartmann in Bonn , she did research at Peking University , Sichuan University , Hamburg University and at the Essen Institute for Cultural Studies . At the Ruhr University in Bochum , she is professor for the religions of Central Asia, past and present.
Her research areas are historical studies: transfer of Buddhism in Central Asia, Tibet and China; early tantric and esoteric traditions in Tibet and China; Manuscript studies (Dunhuang, Kharakhoto); Buddhism and Art; Buddhism and Violence; Contemporary Studies: Buddhism and Human Rights; cultural perspectives on environmental and climate change.
