Dương Thu Hương
Dương Thu Hương (* 1947 in the Thái Bình province in northern Vietnam) is a Vietnamese writer .
Life
She fought for the liberation of her country in the Vietnam War , but was later excluded from the Communist Party because of her criticism of the Communist Party. She takes a humanistic position and demands the observance of human rights .
Her plays, stories and novels are largely banned in Vietnam; however, it is well known in its own country and was widely read before it was banned from publishing. Because of her criticism of the government and the critical stories that can be read in her novels, she was sentenced in 1991 to a seven-month prison term. The official charge was the betrayal of state secrets, which meant the distribution of her novels abroad. She was not allowed to leave Vietnam until 2007 and now lives in France .
She received the Prix Femina and the UNESCO Literature Prize in 1991 .
