Duplinon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Duplinon was a plant protection product manufactured and sold in the GDR .

It served as a late winter spray and was used on fruit trees and berry bushes. The overwintering stages of insects that were harmful to the later harvest were destroyed. In addition to insects, eggs and larvae were also affected. In particular, the eggs of aphids , apple leaf suckers , cherries , cherry blossom moths , ring moths and gypsy moths were controlled. Duplinon was also used against the caterpillars of golden juices , bud moths and spider moths, as well as the larvae of cup scale insects and the insects apple blossom and pear leaf suckers. Since the duplinon developed a permanent effect, insects migrating to the treated plant were also killed later.

The insecticide acted as both a breath and a contact poison . Duplinon was manufactured by the VEB Elektrochemisches Kombinat Bitterfeld . The substances lindane and DDT , which have since been banned because of their harmful environmental effects, were used as active ingredients .

application

For the application it was stipulated that a one percent solution of 100 grams of duplinone in 10 liters of water was prepared and sprayed on all sides on trunk, branches and twigs. The spraying should be done as soon as possible before the buds burst in order to protect the young leaves and the young flowers from being eaten by the insects. A mixture with fungicides was possible, apart from copper defuse . When preparing the solution, the amount of Duplinon should first be mixed with a little more than twice the amount of water and then the remaining water should be slowly added while stirring constantly.

The duplinone dispensed in bottles of 500 and 1000 grams and demijohns of five and twenty kilograms should be stored in such a way that the agent is not exposed to severe frost for long periods of time. The manufacturer stated that when used properly, Dratex was harmless to humans and pets. In view of the active ingredients lindane and DDT, however, the harmlessness of duplinone must be questioned.

It should not be used on flowering plants used by bees. Damage to subcultures was not feared.
