Durham Gospels (A.II.10)
The Durham Gospel Book is a manuscript from around 650 from England . It is the oldest surviving gospel book from the British Isles ( insular book illumination ). It was probably made in Lindisfarne Monastery . Only seven leaves of the manuscript remain, with a geometric illustration at the end of the Gospel of Matthew and a decorated initial at the beginning of the Gospel of Mark .
The sheets are now in the library of Durham Cathedral (call number A.II.10).
