Dustin Michael Kensrue (born November 18, 1980 in Irvine , Orange County ) is an American singer, songwriter and guitarist. He is in the post-hardcore band Thrice and as a solo artist.

Personal

Kensrue is married and has three children. He wears a tattoo on his left wrist that contains a quote from the Bible in Hebrew. He is very committed to world events and supports charitable organizations. On April 23, 2010 he had to leave the tour of his band Thrice and Manchester Orchestra prematurely because his father Doug Kensrue was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Songwriter

Kensrue always writes the lyrics of the songs, which he plays with Thrice or during his solo project, himself. He finds them very personal. He likes to include cynical or sarcastic text passages in order to "point out the topic in an interesting way", as he himself says. For example, a text passage from the album reads " they are sick / they are poor / and they die by the thousands and we look away ". He wants to point out worldly problems. In his work as a songwriter, Kensrue is mainly inspired by books. The title of Thrice's album The Artist In The Ambulance comes from a text passage from " Burn Collector " by Al Burian .

social commitment

He donates part of the proceeds from the sales of his albums or Thrice's albums to charitable organizations. He says he does this because not everyone in the world was lucky enough to be. He considers it wrong to recognize this, but not to do anything about it. Despite relatively low income from the album combination The Alchemy Index , the band continued to donate part of the proceeds.

The band's engagement began during their time with the Sub City Records label . There they pledged to donate part of the proceeds to charitable organizations. When the band split up for good from Sub City Records and switched to Island Records , Kensrue made it clear during the contract negotiations that the band wanted to adhere to this principle.

Musical career

In 1998 Kensrue founded the band Thrice together with Teppei Teranishi . At the beginning, the band had no major commercial success, which is why they were denied the chance of major appearances. In 2000 the band released their first album Identity Crises on the Greenflag Records label . In 2001 the label Sub City Records became aware of the band and signed them. As a result, the album Identity Crises was re-released and Thrice had the chance for bigger appearances as the opening act for Samiam .

After the release of the Thrice album Vheissu , Kensrue broke new ground alongside the band and began a solo career. This resulted in the album Please Come Home . In 2008 Kensrue released the album This Good Night Is Still Everywhere , which is only available as a download from Amazon.
