Duta Kamaso

Duta Kamaso (born in Sutokoba ) is a Gambian politician.

Life

Kamaso attended Sutukoba Primary School .

In the parliamentary elections in Gambia in 2002 , she stood for the ruling party Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) in the constituency of Wuli East and won the mandate with over 65 percent of the vote in front of Mamadi Jabbi People's Democratic Organization for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS).

In January 2006 she was elected to the board of the women's rights organization GAMCOTRAP .

On June 2, 2006, her expulsion from the APRC and her arrest by the NIA intelligence service became known. Accordingly, she was arrested on the return journey from Senegal . where she had accompanied her son for medical treatment. The reason given for this was behavior that was detrimental to the party and the state ( activities detrimental to the party and the state ). Due to the exclusion, she also lost her seat in parliament.

At the beginning of June 2006 she was elected by the National Assembly as a member of the Parliament of the West African Economic Community (ECOWAS). Due to her expulsion from parliament, it was decided a week later to replace her with Nyimasata Sanneh-Bojang .

Kamaso has been detained without charge for several months. Conflicts with the party leadership were assumed to be the reason. Rumors emerged in September that she had died in custody. She was finally released on October 9, 2006, but had to report to the news service on a weekly basis.

In 2014, her son Abdoulie Saidykhan was also arrested without charge for 16 days.

In 2018 she joined the People's Progressive Party (PPP) and took on responsibility for public relations.
