Dutch Design Week

The Dutch Design Week (DDW) is the largest design festival in the Netherlands . It includes exhibitions, awards and congresses. The DDW takes place every October in Eindhoven .

Focus

In the Design Academy Eindhoven, theses from the courses in user-oriented design , social design and information design are presented. The Eindhoven University of Technology shows research trends in the fields of construction, urbanism and industrial design . In 2012 the World Design Forum and a conference on 3D printers took place in the former industrial complex Strijp-S . The winners of the Dutch Design Awards can be seen at the Stadthuis (town hall). The city center is home to fashion and museums. The DDW 2012 offered a total of 300 events at 83 locations with 1,500 designers.

Eindhoven is considered a technology center. The electronics group Philips has had its most important production and research location here since it was founded in 1891 . Other employers are the truck manufacturer DAF , automotive suppliers and microelectronics . The textile industry is now a thing of the past.

A Week van het Ontwerp was organized for the first time in 2002 to promote design , technology and business location . Since then, the DDW has been held annually in October and now has 200,000 visitors.

Many presentations are free to enter. The ticket for the graduate show last cost 16 EUR (online sale). A free shuttle bus connects the individual venues and also stops at Eindhoven Centraal train station .
