At the age of 20 he entered the Carthusian Order and took the name Dysmas after the repentant thief who was crucified with Jesus. In 1990 he became novice master of the Grande Chartreuse and in 2012 he was elected prior of La Chartreuse de Portes .

On November 3, 2014, the monks of the Grande Chartreuse elected him prior and he was confirmed by the general chapter . This made him the 74th successor of St. Bruno of Cologne . He succeeded François-Marie Velut , who resigned for health reasons.
