Dysostosis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dysostosis Germanized by dysostosis ( dys = bad [here = defective], old Greek ; os = bone, Latin ) is a circumscribed disorder of bone formation or bone growth ( ossification ). It is based on a congenital developmental disorder.

Depending on the location of the disorder in relation to the bone formation sites and the stage of bone formation ( ossification ) at which the disorder occurs, it is divided into: desmal D. with dysostosis cleidocranialis (lack of bone formation) or dysostosis craniofacialis (premature ossification the cranial bone sutures); enchondral D., which occurs mainly epiphyseally or metaphyseally , but, as in dysostosis multiplex, can also be associated with periosteal ossification disorder. The Latin names indicate that these deformations occur on the skull or were named after the effects on the facial or brain skull.

Must be distinguished are generalized disorders of skeletal development, as skeletal dysplasia are referred.
