Inkhosikati LaShongwe Dzeliwe Shongwe (* 1927 ; † 2003 ) was regent of Swaziland from September 21, 1982 to August 9, 1983 .

Life

She was the wife of King Sobhuza II of Swaziland and had a child with him, Prince Khuzulwandie Dlamini .

After the death of her husband in August 1982, Dzeliwe was appointed regent by the Royal Congress until Prince Makhosetive , the king's successor, reached the age of 21. The Liqoqo supported their reign, but soon there were disagreements with the Prime Minister, Mabandla Dlamini , and other members of the Congress, which was led by Mfansibili Dlamini .

Mabandla Dlamini has been replaced by Bhekimpi Dlamini ; Dzeliwe was against this dismissal. This led to her replacement as reigning queen by the mother of Makhosetive, Ntombi of Swaziland.

Prince Makhosetive was born on April 25, 1986 under the name Mswati III. crowned King of Swaziland. He dismissed the liqoqo, thereby consolidating his position and reorganizing the government.

In May 1987, twelve people were convicted of sedition and betrayal of Dzeliwe in 1983. King Mswati created a special court to condemn Dzeliwe's dismissal in 1983. In that court, the defense lawyers had no right to legal representation . They were sentenced by the court in March 1988, but released in July.

Between 1981 and 1985, Dzeliwe was Joint President of the National Congress.
