The cargo ship series Dzhankoy was a type of bulk carrier from the Warnow shipyard .

history

The ship type was a further development of the Ugleuralsk series. The series was produced in seventeen units from 1960 to 1963. The ships were mainly used to transport ore and coal, but also other bulk goods. The complete series was built for the USSR . All ship names began with "D".

The first ship and namesake of the series was the Dzhankoy with hull number 410, which was handed over to the Soviet Union on August 1, 1960. It was operated until 1984 and demolished in Seville on March 26, 1984 . The last ship in the series was the Dedowsk with hull number 426 , which was handed over on November 27, 1963. She was demolished in 2004 as Banam in Alang . The rest of the ships were sold to abandoners from the mid-1980s. The longest-lived were the last three ships in the series, each of which had more than 30 years of service before they were scrapped.

technology

The ships were propelled by a 3972 kW two-stroke diesel engine of the type K7Z 70/120 A 3 manufactured under MAN license from the manufacturer VEB Dieselmotorenwerk Rostock , which acts directly on a four- bladed fixed propeller with a diameter of 5.00 m.

The ice-reinforced hulls are made of high-strength steel, have seven transverse bulkheads and are joined together in a sectional construction. The deckhouse is air-conditioned.

The five cargo holds, reinforced for ore transport, with a volume of 11,440 m³ grain space and 10,800 m³ bale space are sealed off sea-tight with hatch covers from the MacGregor system. A tween deck is only provided fore and aft. Upper and lower continuous side tanks limit the cargo space and are intended to prevent the cargo from going over. The ships had four luffing cranes. The Dedowsk only had one crane.
