Günter Marchel worked as a freelancer until 2005/2006. Solo exhibitions took place in Vienna , Knittelfeld and Graz . His pictures show completely abstract compositions, behind which there are usually realistic representations. Even during his student days, Marchel dealt exclusively with the human nude, making nude drawings from models, transferring them to canvas and finally covering them up in the painting process. Since he grants the viewer the freedom to look at the images unaffected, the public never gets to see the originals. "In terms of harmony, the human body is closest to nature and always perfect in its own way," says Günter Marchel, explaining this choice of motifs.

A work by Günter Marchel was also used for the cover of the album "Full Circle" by the Austrian jazz saxophonist Harry Sokal .

Prizes and awards

Marchel received the Golden Fügermedaille for his work in 1989 , the Master School Prize of the Prachensky Master School in 1990 and the Appreciation Prize of the Federal Minister for Science and Research in 1991.
