Egri Köprü

The Eğri Köprü ( Turkish for crooked bridge ) is a stone arch bridge over the Kızılırmak ( Halys ) river in the southeast of the city of Sivas in central Anatolia . It established the connection between Sivas and the road to the city of Malatya on the way to Syria and Mesopotamia . Since the construction of a modern road bridge approx. 50 m upstream, it has only been used for pedestrian traffic.

The exact age of this Ottoman bridge is not known; it is believed to date from the 16th or 17th century.

It consists of 18 stone pointed arches and is 180 m long and 5.50 m wide. In the middle it has a distinctive bend against the current, which divides it into a 120 m long and a 60 m long section.

As the bridge was recently restored, it has an unusually bright and new look.
