Vineus Wine Culture Award
The VINEUS Wine Culture Award is an audience award in Austria . People who care about Austrian wine culture are honored. This prize was awarded for the fourth time in 2014. Until 2013, the award was jointly organized by C + C Pfeiffer and havel & petz - since 2014, Transgourmet (formerly C + C Pfeiffer) has been the sole organizer with its beverage wholesaler TRINKWERK.
The categories
The prize is awarded in six different categories:
- Wine hotel
- Wine restaurant
- Newcomer winemaker
- Trendsetter winemaker
- Sommellerie
- Life's work
The selection of candidates
30–40 experts from Austria's world of wine and enjoyment bring three candidates each in five categories (sommelier, life's work, wine hotel, wine restaurant, trendsetter winemaker) and award points. The 3 highest ranked candidates in each category go to the final for audience evaluation. If there are no clear favorites, the best-rated come into another expert ranking. The expert points are sufficient in the categories of life's work, trendsetter winemaker and sommelier, here the best-placed wins the VINEUS.
An invitation to tender is ongoing for the newcomer winemaker category. The wines submitted by the potential candidates will be tasted by an independent expert jury. The three best winemakers then face the public vote. Decisive for the submission are, among other things, the age. The winemakers can be a maximum of 35 years.
Determination of the winners
In the public categories (wine hotel, wine restaurant and newcomer winemaker), 3 candidates (selected and rated by the experts or the specialist jury) submit to online or SMS voting by the public. Online voting begins approx. 1 month before the gala and you can cast your votes by SMS for approx. 1 hour on the evening of the gala. In the expert categories (trendsetter winemaker, sommelier and life's work), the winners emerge from the expert ranking.
