Environmental information project group

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The project group Environmental Information - PG UI promotes the joint implementation of the Environmental Information Act of Austria in cooperation with the federal government, states, cities and municipalities on the e-government process platform "Digital Austria".

The UIG 2004 is the national implementation at federal level of Directive 2003/4 / EC of the European Parliament and the Council of January 28, 2003 on public access to environmental information. By August 14, 2009, the member states reported to the European Commission on the experience they had gained in applying the EC Directive .

The federal government, states, cities and municipalities must reposition themselves comprehensively with regard to the requirements for access to and dissemination of environmental information resulting from the UIG 2004. This is intended to make a significant contribution to greater transparency and closeness to the citizen in environmental administration in Austria.

Austria has been a party to the Aarhus Convention since 2005 . This UNECE Convention is the first international treaty that grants everyone rights in environmental protection . The Aarhus Convention establishes the obligation of the member states to actively gather information and make it available to the public. It contains the obligation of the contracting parties to gradually build up a coherent, nationwide system of directories or registers for recording environmental pollution in the form of a structured, computer-aided and publicly accessible database.

For the third Conference of the Parties in Riga in June 2008, Austria also submitted the first report on the implementation of the Convention.

There are also extensive reporting obligations to the European Environment Agency ( EEA): In 2007 Austria fulfilled 100% of the reporting obligations for the first time.

Organization and goal setting

The PG UI is set up within the Digital Austria platform under the direct direction of the CIO of the Republic of Austria, Reinhard Posch . During the 14th meeting of the BLSG cooperation on July 3, 2007, a formal resolution was passed in the Federal Chancellery on the establishment of the working group.

The operational management of the PG UI is carried out by the coordination office for environmental information in the Federal Environment Agency .

The PG UI's task is to promote the systematic as well as comprehensive availability and dissemination of environmental information on the internet portals of the authorities of the bodies required to provide information.

One of the main objectives is to set up a central environmental information portal ( one-stop shop ) in Austria analogous to the environmental portal in Germany . This corresponds to both the government declaration of the Federal Chancellor of January 16, 2007 and the government program for the XXIII. Legislative period (2007-2010).

The Internet platform for internal and external communication of the PG UI is located on the E-Government Reference Server.
