Conventional ticket validator and e-go column on the platform

e-go is a ticket system for public transport in Luxembourg that works with a plastic card equipped with a microchip .

The card can be repeatedly topped up electronically with a credit (previously at the ticket office) for several trips in a certain price category, for example short trips or day tickets. It is planned that this system will replace the usual paper tickets in the future.

It can be used on the entire Luxembourg public transport network:

  1. AVL ( Luxembourg City buses )
  2. CFL (Luxembourg Railways)
  3. RGTR ( Régime général des transports routiers - general bus transport)
  4. TICE ( Tramways intercommunaux du canton Esch - bus transport in the canton of Esch)

Selling points for plastic cards are currently:

  1. Mobility center in Luxembourg train station ,
  2. the CFL counters in Esch, Ettelbruck, Bettembourg, Wasserbillig, Pétange and Rodange stations
  3. the AVL counters in the Bouillon P + R car park and in the Hamilius Center (both in Luxembourg City)
  4. at the TICE counter in Esch / Alzette .

Procedure

The e-go project cost millions of euros and still does not meet the high expectations of the time.

Due to the financial excesses of the project, the Court of Auditors ( Cour des comptes ) has dealt with the legality and compliance of the project. In his special report on this, he did not comment on the question of the usefulness of the project. In the meantime, he found that the project documentation was completely inadequate, in particular there was no clear specification sheet for the contractor, which subsequently resulted in an increasing information asymmetry and dependence of the client on the contractor.

Work is still ongoing on the e-go project; an expansion towards France is under discussion.
