The EPG V 30 was a narrow-gauge diesel locomotive that was built by the Jung Lokomotivfabrik for the Emden – Pewsum – Greetsiel circuit . There it was supposed to replace steam locomotives in freight and passenger transport.

In terms of design, it is derived from the DB class V 29 . The machine is no longer available today.

history

Three years after delivery of the DB class V 29 , Jung built a similar locomotive with the company name Jung LC 29 B + B for the Emden – Pewsum – Greetsiel district .

Since similar orders were pending for India , South Africa and South America , a comparison locomotive was created that had some changes compared to the V 29 . It was equipped with a shunting corridor for freight train operations and a route corridor for passenger train operations.

A separate shed was built in Emden for the new diesel locomotive. The locomotive was known internally as the Ostfriesen-V 29 . After their construction, Jung did not produce any further articulated locomotives, apart from a few reorders for abroad.

technology

The chain drive was not operationally safe for the required speed of 55 km / h, so the locomotive was equipped with a cardan shaft drive. For this purpose, it had a primary gearbox in front of the fluid transmission for selecting maneuvering or driving gear.

The drive motors were air-cooled as in the V 29 . It was also equipped with a combined coupling for narrow-gauge railways and a pulling and buffing device of the standard design, so that standard- gauge wagons could be transported directly coupled in roll-head mode .

The locomotive was then converted to a gauge of 750 mm and used on the Osterode-Kreiensen circuit until it was discontinued in 1967. There was no new area of responsibility for the locomotive, it was shut down in 1968 and scrapped in 1971.
