Marc Rittberger

Marc Rittberger (* 1962 ) is a German information scientist. He is professor for information management at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences and at DIPF | Leibniz Institute for Research and Information in Education .

Life

Marc Rittberger studied physics from 1981 to 1988 at the University of Karlsruhe (TH) (today integrated into the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology ), interrupted by two internships at the American Institute of Physics (AIP) in New York. This was followed by postgraduate studies in information science at the University of Konstanz from 1988 to 1989 . He then worked as a research assistant at Rainer Kuhlen's Chair in Information Science at the University of Konstanz until 1995 , where he received his doctorate in 1995 (subject: selection of online databases. In 2005 he took over a professorship for information management at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences and at DIPF | Leibniz Institute for Research and Information in Education . At the same time he became director of the “Information Center Education” department and, until 2012, of the library for research on the history of education at the DIPF. In addition, Marc Rittberger was Managing Director from 2008 to 2012 and Deputy Managing Director from 2006 to 2008 and from 2012 to 2019. Since 2015 he has also been the deputy spokesman for the Leibniz Research Association Open Science.

Current focus of work and research

Marc Rittberger deals, among other things, with applied research on the topics of information behavior, information quality and open science . In addition, he is responsible for numerous research and development projects at the Education Information Center, which offers and develops research and information infrastructures. These include the German education server and the pedagogy specialist portal . Under his responsibility, the Education Research Data Center has been set up in recent years , which prepares scientific data for reuse within the framework of the Education Research Data Association (VerbundFDB), and the Center for Technology-Based Assessment (TBA), which was realized in cooperation with the DIPF department “Educational Quality and Evaluation” ), which develops and provides software tools for the creation and analysis of computer-based tests.
