European Association of Service Providers for Persons with Disabilities

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European Association of Service Providers for Persons with Disabilities (abbreviation: EASPD , German: the European Association of Service Providers for People with Disabilities ), based in Brussels, is an umbrella organization of European institutions that serve to promote people with disabilities . The EASPD represents around 11,000 service providers in 33 European countries.

The EASPD describes its areas of work (in English terms):

  • "Impact" - giving service organizations a voice at European and national level
  • “Information” - from the EU to grassroots organizations and back
  • "Innovation" - in order to be able to support people with disabilities even better in exercising their rights

The association was founded in 1996. Its first president was the Irishman Brian O'Donnell. In 2008 the Austrian Franz Wolfmayr was elected as his successor.

In August 2014, the EASPD asked the members of the European Parliament to confront the candidates for an office as EU Commissioner with the following five subject complexes:

  1. Harnessing and releasing the potential for job creation in the field of social and health services.
  2. Exclusion of social and health services from the TTIP free trade agreement between the EU and the USA
  3. Accelerating the transition to community integrated services
  4. Go beyond the declaration of rights in the European Disability Strategy and ensure that people really enjoy their rights
  5. Greater influence from the European Agency for Special Needs and Inclusive Education
