EBEWE Pharma is a pharmaceutical company founded by Emil Bertalanffy in Vienna in 1934 and based in Unterach am Attersee ( Upper Austria ).

history

The company was founded in Vienna in 1934 as Emil Bertalanffy Werke , and the company headquarters, including the research facility and production facility, moved to Unterach in the Salzkammergut in 1945 . In the period from 1956 to 2001, EBEWE was part of the German company BASF and, when Abbott Laboratories took over the pharmaceutical division of BASF in early 2001, was part of the US Abbott group for a short time .

A group of investors led by Friedrich Hillebrand bought the company from the Abbott Group in a management buyout . In May 2009, Sandoz acquired the generic drug business from EBEWE for EUR 925 million.
