ECO house
The ECO-Haus , Kurfürstendamm 64–65, is a seven-storey commercial building in the Berlin district of Charlottenburg and was built in 1954/55 by Philipp Holzmann AG according to plans by the architect Herbert Schiller. The building is a monument .
architecture
The building is a reinforced concrete frame construction . A sloping roof protrudes over the glazed ground floor. The windows from the first to the fifth floor are elongated. The facade is clad with travertine panels. The top floor is set back so that balconies have been created.
use
The Eco-House got its name from the client and local clothing manufacturer Gerhard Ebel & Co. (Eco). In 1955 an advertisement stated: “The representative ECO house on Kurfürstendamm with its six floors is one of the most impressive new buildings in West Berlin. It offers 1000 employees in the clothing industry bright workrooms. ”After the wall was built , most of the clothing companies in this building ceased operations.
On November 5, 1954, the “Bonbonniere” cinema designed by architect Walter Labes was opened with 424 seats on the ground floor. The “Bonbonniere” specialized in American films. In the 1970s the house was temporarily operated as a porn cinema . 1977/78 the movie theater started under the name "Cinema Berlin" and later, "Hollywood" again as cinema to play, which mainly showed premieres. After a renovation in 1993, the cinema had a second room in the adjoining shop. In mid-August 2003, the cinema stopped operating.
On August 15, 2005, the KU64 dental practice was opened on the 5th and 6th floors of the building. The interiors were designed by the architects GRAFT on behalf of Dr. Stephan Ziegler redesigned. The design of the interior won the 1st prize for Public Interior / Innovation of the Archip Awards in 2008. The 2011 redesigned children's area "KU 65 - Dental Practice for Children" was recognized in 2013 in the program designed by AKG - Architects for Hospital Construction and Health Care at BDA e. V. - AKG competition for outstanding health buildings.

On June 9, 2009, three stumbling blocks for Georg, Anna and Ida Bremer were laid in the sidewalk in front of the house .
