EFTA Surveillance Authority

The EFTA Surveillance Authority is an international body based in Brussels .

The authority monitors compliance with the standards for the free trade area of ​​the European Economic Area (EEA) in those member states of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) that also belong to the EEA. Since 2003 these have been Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Previously, Finland, Austria and Sweden were also Member States. The institution has the task of ensuring that the regulations of the EEA are also applied in these countries.

The authority is headed by a college for which each EEA / EFTA member state sends a member for a period of four years. The facility was established in 1994 on the basis of the Surveillance and Court Agreement with the EFTA Court . Around 60 people are employed here (as of 2014).
