Yellow EIAJ connector

The EIAJ connector ( Electronic Industries Association of Japan ) is a special type of barrel connector for the power supply of small appliances. It has a yellow insulating ring at the tip and can therefore be easily recognized. In addition, a restraint system is built into the connector throughout the EIAJ system. With types 1 to 3 this consists of a beveled edge at the outer connector end, while with types 4 and 5 the yellow insulating ring is larger than the metallic connector sleeve.

The basic idea is that the bigger the voltage , the bigger the connector. This prevents the mechanically larger plugs with a higher voltage from being plugged into device sockets with a lower nominal voltage. This avoids damage to the device due to overvoltage .
