Pioneer entered into a strategic partnership with Sharp in late 2007 to address the rising costs of developing new products.

The first and sole importer in Germany was the Melchers company in Bremen, which was founded by the Pioneer-Melchers subsidiary. This company was taken over by Pioneer Germany, relocated to Düsseldorf and later to Willich , the current headquarters of Pioneer Germany.

On February 6, 2009, the Japanese business newspaper Nikkei announced that Pioneer was planning to withdraw from the production of televisions and DVD players. Due to the strong Japanese yen , which is making exports difficult, the manufacturer is considering discontinuing production. The decision to end the manufacture and sale of televisions was then made on February 12, 2009, on which the results for the past financial year were also announced. In 2008, Pioneer was facing a loss of around one billion dollars.

Parts of the know-how and employees from development and construction were taken over by Panasonic . The factories for the production of panels and assembly were gradually shut down in 2009, and the discontinued products were sold until the warehouses were also empty. The guarantee continues to be guaranteed as usual and the supply of spare parts is ensured.

In September 2014 sold Pioneer 85% of its business area DJ Equipment for 551 million US dollars to the US financial investor KKR .

In March 2015, Pioneer sold 51% of its consumer products business ( AV receivers , amplifiers, headphones, Blu-ray players) to the Chinese investment fund Baring Private Equity Asia ; the remaining 49% received u. a. the former competitor Onkyo . This in turn merged its own home user division with that now acquired by Pioneer. Exactly one year later, the remainder of the Pioneer group, which now mainly focuses on auto accessories, moved its headquarters from Kawasaki to Tokyo .

After a severe crisis, Baring Private Equity Asia also took over the rest of the company for $ 904 million. and the stock's listing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange ceased on March 27, 2019. A week earlier, Pioneer in the Nikkei 225 was replaced by Omron .

Pioneer currently produces various products in the field of consumer electronics, car hi-fi, DJ products and PC drives. With the four-channel effects mixer DJM 800 , Pioneer manufactured one of the most widely used mixing consoles in the club sector from 2009 onwards .
