The Omron KK ( Jap. オムロン株式会社 , Omuron Kabushiki Kaisha , Eng. OMRON Corporation ) is a global company with multiple business segments. These are: industrial automation, electronic components, public systems and medical technology. Headquarters is in Kyoto, Japan. The company name was derived from "Omuro" ( 御 室 ), an area or a district of Kyoto.

history

The company was founded in 1933 by Kazuma Tateishi ( 立 石 一 真 ) as Tateisi Denki Seisakujo ( 立 石 電機 製作 所 , German "Elektrogerätewerk Tateisi") in Osaka. Over 50% of sales are generated outside of Japan. It has been operating in Europe since 1974.

In the 1980s, OMRON became known in Germany for the C20 small controller. At the beginning of the 1990s, attempts were made to introduce fuzzy technology into automation technology.

Omron has been listed in the Nikkei 225 index since March 2019 .

Automation technology products

The following products are mainly sold in Europe: Programmable logic controllers , operating devices ( HMI ), frequency converters , servos , image processing , security systems , temperature controllers , counters and timing relays , light barriers , proximity switches , relays and switches.

In contrast to other PLC manufacturers, no microcontroller is used for bit processing , but ASICs specially developed for OMRON .

With the takeover of the American Adept in 2015, the focus on robot technology began. The entry into human-robot collaboration took place in 2018 . In 2019, robotics, image processing and automation were combined in the Opdra project. This is a joint project with the Bobingen company Hufschmied Zerspanungssysteme GmbH and the Munich startup VisCheck GmbH . Using the optical readout of production screens and artificial intelligence, an Omron cobot can intervene in the ongoing production process of a machining center by correcting the parameters via the keyboard.

Medical technology products

In Germany, sales are carried out by OMRON Medizintechnik Handelsgesellschaft mbH. The range includes blood pressure monitors , various inhalation devices , TENS devices , fever monitors, medical scales (including body fat scales ), mobile EKG devices and fitness trackers.
