EICAS
EICAS is the abbreviation for the name used by Boeing and other manufacturers for E ngine I ndication and C rew A lerting S ystem. In German about “engine display and crew warning system”. In Airbus a similar system is E lectronic C entralized A ircraft M onitoring ( ECAM ).
It provides the pilot with a display of the most important engine parameters on a color screen and informs the crew if certain engine parameters no longer comply with the standard. This means that the crew can be relieved of the tiring work of engine control, which ultimately made it possible to do without a flight engineer .
With EICAS and ECAM all systems of the aircraft can be checked. For this purpose, the pilot can call up and display individual systems, such as the hydraulic system or the fuel system , on a special screen page if necessary .
In addition, EICAS and ECAM also offer warning messages and error messages for all systems in the aircraft as well as help with handling the warning message. The appropriate system page is displayed automatically.
EICAS or ECAM is installed in connection with the electronic flight information system EFIS . The screens have a redundant structure, which means that if one screen fails, the information can be switched to other screens.
