Huawei EMUI (formerly Emotion UI ) is a custom ROM based on the Android mobile operating system , which Huawei uses on most Huawei and Honor brand smartphones .

history

On December 30, 2012, Huawei introduced Emotion UI 1.0 based on Android 4.0. It has a voice assistant app (only in Chinese), customizable home screens and a change of subject. The company has made the installation files for the Huawei Ascend P1 available on its website.

On September 4, 2014, the company announced EMUI 3.0 and the Ascend Mate 7 at the previous IFA event in Berlin. The user interface has since been called "EMUI" instead of "Emotion UI". This has a new app store (for the Chinese market).

At the end of 2015, Huawei launched the Huawei Mate 8 with the new EMUI 4.0, with a newly designed user interface based on Android 6.0.

In 2016, EMUI 5.0 was introduced with the Huawei Mate 9 .

In 2017, all ROM files were removed from EMUI on the official website. Huawei announced that it will offer a "more convenient and satisfactory update service". Since then, all updates have been delivered via OTA (over-the-air) updates .

In late 2017, EMUI 8.0 was introduced, skipping EMUI 6.0 and 7.0 to align the numbering with the Android versions. The new version was released at the same time as the new Huawei Mate 10 . This version focuses on various AI skills.
