The European standard  EN 71 specifies safety regulations for toys . It is a legal requirement that all  toys sold in the  European Union and other specific products that come into direct contact with children must meet this standard. The EN 71 standard is based on Directive 2009/48 / EC of June 30, 2009. This standard was also published as the DIN standard DIN EN 71 .

Most of the standards have been adapted to Annex I of Directive 2009/48 / EC.

The standard consists of 14 parts:

  • Part 1 Mechanical and physical properties

  • Part 4 experiment kits for chemical and similar experiments 
  • Part 5 chemical toys (sets) other than experiment kits 
  • Part 7 finger paints; Requirements and test methods 
  • Part 8 swings, slides and similar activity toys for domestic use (indoor and outdoor)

  • Part 10 organic chemical compounds - sample preparation and extraction 
  • Part 11 Organic chemical compounds - Analytical methods
  • Part 12: N-nitrosamines and N-nitrosatable substances; German version EN 71-12: 2016
  • Part 13: Board games for the sense of smell, vanity cases and games for the sense of taste; German and English version prEN 71-13: 2019
  • Part 14: Trampolines for domestic use; German version EN 71-14: 2018
