ISO ISO 6946

The standard EN ISO 6946 components - Thermal resistance and thermal transmittance - calculation method describes the method for calculating the thermal transmittance (U-value, formerly k-value) of structures.

Numerous other standards refer to the calculation methods from EN ISO 6946, including DIN V 18599 and DIN 4108 . The energetic evaluation of components is a basis for the demand-oriented energy certificate for buildings. The current version of the DIN standard is DIN EN ISO 6946: 2018-03 .

Procedure

The standard is used to calculate the U-value of components with adjacent areas. The heat transfer coefficients of components with inhomogeneous layers are to be determined in accordance with the European standard EN ISO 6946 using new calculation approaches. Since the standard was passed in November 1996, EN ISO 6946 has been a partial replacement for DIN 4108-5. a. the averaging of the heat transfer coefficient (formerly k-value) for adjacent areas, such as B. partition or rafters in roof structures.

The previous calculation rule was generally: where A means the sum of the area proportions

With the introduction of EN ISO 6946, the designation of the heat transfer coefficient changes: the k-value becomes the U-value. Further changes relate to the definition of the heat transfer resistance and the heat transfer resistance of air layers.
