EOS is a blockchain- based cryptocurrency that was launched in June 2017. As of April 2018, EOS was the 5th largest cryptocurrency with a market capitalization of approximately $ 6.9 billion .

history

Based on a white paper published in 2017, EOS.IO is currently operated by the private company block.one. The associated software was released as open source on June 1, 2017 . The goal of the platform is to provide smart contract and decentralized storage solutions for businesses that will solve the scalability problems of blockchains like Bitcoin and Ethereum and remove all fees for users. EOS.IO achieves this by being both multithreading- based and using a delegated-proof-of-stake protocol. The aim is to be the first decentralized system that offers a development environment for decentralized applications such as Steemit . The token (EOS) is a utility token that provides both bandwidth and storage on the blockchain in proportion to the total use - using 1% of the EOS tokens allows use of up to 1% of the total available bandwidth.

In order to ensure a wide distribution of the 1 billion EOS tokens when the blockchain was launched, they were distributed over the Ethereum network. 20% were distributed during the first 5 days of the opening, 70% were evenly divided into 350 consecutive 23-hour periods of 2,000,000 EOS tokens from July 1, 2017, 10% of the EOS tokens are for block.one reserved and cannot be traded or transferred on the Ethereum network. The purpose of the distribution is to ensure that everyone can use the EOS tokens as soon as the software is released. Brendan Blumer, CEO of Block.one, announced that EOS.IO will channel its historic token sales of $ 1 billion to projects built on EOS.

In the world's first rating of cryptocurrencies, EOS received Ethereum and the only B rating from the US rating agency Weiss (Bitcoin: C +) in January 2018.

Block.one

Block.one is a Cayman Islands registered company that offers EOS tokens. Daniel Larimer is Technical Director (CTO) and was recognized by his role in building Bitshares [a decentralized crypto exchange (DEX)], building Steemit (a decentralized social media platform) and as the thinker of a decentralized autonomous company (DAC or DAO, decentralized autonomous corporation / organization) known.

technology

The EOS.IO software is based on a blockchain architecture that was designed for the vertical and horizontal scaling of decentralized applications. This is achieved by creating an operating system-like construct on which applications can be built. The software provides accounts, authentication, databases, asynchronous communication, and application scheduling across hundreds of CPU cores or clusters. The resulting technology is a blockchain architecture that scales to millions of transactions per second, eliminates user fees, and enables decentralized applications to be deployed quickly and easily. EOS manages without mining, as the blocks are produced and validated by 21 selected block producers. The smart contract language for EOS-dApps will be WebAssembly ( Rust , C and C ++ ).

On April 5, 2018 Block. One presented a publicly accessible test environment called EOSIO Dawn 3.0.
