ERDAS IMAGINE is a software for evaluating remote sensing data, especially graphics and photos. The program analyzes raster graphics and was developed by the US company ERDAS Inc. for geostatistical and geoanalytical applications. The program allows the preparation of digital remote sensing data for GIS or CAD .

Functions

The software analyzes raster graphics and was specially developed for geostatistical and geoanalytical applications. Version 10.1 was released in 2010. ERDAS IMAGINE allows the preparation of digital remote sensing data and digitized aerial photographs and the like. for GIS or CAD .

Graphics and photos can be geocoded using ERDAS IMAGINE, which means that they are rectified and thus assigned to geographic coordinates (georeferenced). The program has filters for stretching contrasts, and can carry out color coding and classifications. In addition, a wide variety of results can be generated from the image data using arithmetic operations; this is particularly necessary for multi-temporal viewing of areas (monitoring).

In addition to analyzing remote sensing data, this software can also convert data into spatial models. Using the “Map Composition Module”, the results of the analyzes can be converted into 2D, 3D, films and high-quality maps.

user

ERDAS IMAGINE is mainly used in the professionally institutionalized area. The German aerospace center DLR, for example, works with the software. The program is used in the civil sector in macroecology and development research, among other things .

The program is basically suitable for many areas of application. Examples of the diverse areas of application are scientific questions such as land use mapping , evaluation of climatic observations of the world's oceans (oceanography) , the ecological loads on aquatic ecosystems (limnology) and large-scale forest management issues (forest inventory, forest death). In addition, morphological and structural-morphological (geological) issues can be processed. Furthermore, the software enables large-scale rainforest monitoring and other applications in the field of spatial science .
