The Directive 2006/126 / EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 December 2006 on driving licenses - in short driving license directive - is Community law of the European Union . It represents an important milestone towards a common European law.
Objectives
The directive is intended to transport policy harmonization and the driver's license law and at the same time the road safety as well as the freedom of movement and freedom of establishment support in Europe. It regulates the driving license classes and the requirements for their issuance and revocation across Europe, as well as the training to become a driving examiner . It introduces major innovations against driving license tourism .
Validity and implementation in national law
The Directive 2006/126 / EC replaced as recast Directive 91/439 / EEC.
The third driving license directive came into force on January 19, 2007. The regulations contained therein had to be implemented in the national law of the member states by January 19, 2011 and applied by January 19, 2013 at the latest.
In Germany, a partial implementation took place on January 19, 2009. The full implementation took place on January 19, 2013.
