EWL InstaKit is a word and image trademark registered with the German Patent and Trademark Office and is marketed as a so-called "co-construction concept" in the field of electrical installation. In contrast to conventional electrical installation , after which all operations by the staff of a qualified specialist company from the craft carried out, the artisanal operations are carried out by persons without proper qualification (lay) by this alternative design, with only concomitantly or after completion of a qualified specialized company, the Testing and dismantling and commissioning takes over.

The system is used in the so-called DIY market sector and is aimed in particular at the clientele of individual housing construction.

History and conception

The concept was conceived by the master craftsman Franz Thiel in the period of the weakening construction industry from 1990 and first marketed as a marketable concept in 1995 by his electrical specialist company Hansen & Thiel GbR under the name "InstaKit" in the Trier (DE) area.

Until then, the execution of electrical engineering work was reserved exclusively for specialist craft companies and their specialist staff. A comparable professional concept for self-assembly did not exist in an officially available way. As an innovative business idea, the concept was supported by the Investment and Structural Bank Rhineland-Palatinate .

As a result, lobbyists from professional associations and electricity network operators formed the most energetic resistance: In order to counteract industrial mass production in order to prevent a new, unpleasant distribution channel , the opponents cited technical, legal and safety-relevant details, according to which electrical work is exclusively reserved for specialist companies and therefore by Laymen should not be carried out.

Since this conception of construction supervision and acceptance ultimately fulfills the same technical and safety-relevant criteria as the classic, purely manual installation principle, it was enforced in May 2000 at the Koblenz Higher Regional Court as compliant with the law and safety.

This was followed by Germany-wide distribution through the hardware store from 2001 . With a further court ruling by the Aschaffenburg regional court, it was also achieved that from now on this joint construction practice may no longer be treated, reduced or disadvantaged separately from conventional installation practice. In addition to electricity network operators, this was also particularly relevant for building insurance , as this court decision ties this court decision to equal treatment with conventionally installed systems.

In September 2013 the concept was taken over by VolTra GmbH and further perfected under the name "EWL InstaKit".

EWL InstaKit is sold not only in Germany but also in Luxembourg and Austria.
