Earl Erne , of Crom Castle in the County of Fermanagh , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Ireland .

Award and subordinate titles

The title was created on August 18, 1789 for John Creighton, 1st Viscount Erne .

He had already been raised to Viscount Erne , of Crom Castle in the County of Fermanagh, in the Peerage of Ireland on January 6, 1781 , and from 1800 to 1828 he was an Irish representative peer member of the British House of Lords . In 1772 he had already inherited from his father the title Baron Erne , of Crom Castle in the County of Fermanagh, which was conferred on July 15, 1768 in the Peerage of Ireland .

His grandson, the 3rd Earl, was also given the title Baron Fermanagh , of Lisnaskea in the County of Fermanagh, on January 13, 1876 . This belongs to the Peerage of the United Kingdom and was linked to a hereditary seat in the House of Lords until 1999 .

The Earls family seat is at Crom Castle near Newtownbutler in County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland .
