Earl Haig
Earl Haig is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
The Earls family seat is Bemersyde House near Newtown St Boswells in Roxburghshire .
Award
The title was created on September 29, 1919 for Field Marshal Douglas Haig . During the First World War , Haig was Commander in Chief of the British Expeditionary Force on the Western Front .
Subordinate title
With the earliest title , the subordinate titles Viscount Dawick and Baron Haig , of Bemersyde in the County of Berwick , were awarded, who also belong to the Peerage of the United Kingdom. Viscount Dawick is listed as a courtesy title by Heir Apparent .
