Earl of Bradford , in the County of Salop , is a hereditary British title of nobility bestowed once in the Peerage of England and once in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Awards and subordinate titles

The title was first created on May 11, 1694 for Francis Newport, 1st Viscount Newport . He had already been raised to Viscount Newport , of Bradford in the County of Salop on March 11, 1675 . From his father he had also inherited the title of Baron Newport , of High Ercall in the County of Salop, in 1651 , which had been awarded to this on October 14, 1642. All these titles belonged to the Peerage of England and expired on April 18, 1762 when his grandson, the 4th Earl died.

In the second bestowal the title was created on November 30, 1815 in the Peerage of the United Kingdom for Orlando Bridgeman, 2nd Baron Bradford . He was a great-nephew of the last earl's first award. Along with the earliest title, he was given the minor title Viscount Newport , in the County of Salop. From his father in 1800 he had inherited the title of Baron Bradford , of Bradford in the County of Salop, which had been awarded to him on August 17, 1794 in the Peerage of Great Britain . Today's title holder is his great-great-great-great-grandson Richard Bridgeman as 7th Earl.

The probable heir apparent is the son of the current owner, Alexander Bridgeman, Viscount Newport (* 1980).
