Earl of Dartrey , of Dartrey in the County of Monaghan , was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Awarding, subordinate and other titles, as well as expiry

The title was created on July 12, 1866 for Richard Dawson, 3rd Baron Cremorne . On September 20, 1847, he had already been awarded Baron Dartrey , of Dartrey in the County of Monaghan, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom . In addition, in 1827 he had inherited the title of Baron Cremorne , of Castle Dawson in the County of Monaghan, from his father , who in 1797 in the Peerage of Ireland bestowed his great-grand-uncle Thomas Dawson, 1st Viscount Cremorne , with a special inheritance regulation in favor of the grandfather of the later 1. Earls, Richard Dawson (1762-1807). Thomas Dawson, 1st Viscount Cremorne, had already been raised to Baron Dartrey , of Dawson's Grove in the County of Monaghan on May 28, 1770 , and Viscount Cremorne on June 19, 1785 , in the Peerage of Ireland , but had his three sons survived, which is why these two titles had expired on his death in 1813.

None of the four sons of the 1st Earl left male descendants, which is why the Earldom and the subordinate baronies Cremorne and Dartrey expired on the death of the youngest son, the 3rd Earl, on February 9, 1933.
