The Complete Peerage

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Complete Peerage (full title: The Complete Peerage of England, Scotland, Ireland, Great Britain, and the United Kingdom Extant, Extinct, or Dormant ; 1st edition by George Edward Cokayne 1910ff; 2nd revised edition by the Hon. Vicary Gibbs et al. ) is a comprehensive reference work on the nobility of the British Isles.

It was originally published in 14 volumes and 15 books, but is now also available on CD . The first 13 volumes were reissued in 2000 as a six-volume reprint , together with Volume 14, an appendix for the years up to 1995. Since the reprint contains four images per page, it is difficult to read. However, Cokayne's work is generally rated higher than the alternative works Debrett's Peerage and Burke's Peerage , especially in genealogical questions .
