Earl of Howth

Earl of Howth was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Ireland .

The Earls' family seat was Howth Castle near Howth in what is now County Fingal .

Award and subordinate titles

The title was created on September 3, 1767 for the Irish lawyer Thomas St Lawrence, 15th Baron Howth . Together with the Earldom he was given the subordinate title Viscount St. Lawrence . As early as 1748 he inherited the subordinate title of Baron Howth , which was given to his ancestor the Anglo-Irish feudal lord of Howth, Christopher St. Lawrence , around 1425 in the Peerage of Ireland .

His great-grandson, the 4th Earl, was also awarded the title Baron Howth , of Howth in the County of Dublin in the Peerage of the United Kingdom on October 7, 1881 . All four titles expired when this earl died childless on March 9, 1909.
