Earl of Normanton
Earl of Normanton is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Ireland .
The Earls' family seat is Somerley House near Ringwood in Hampshire.
Award
The title was created on February 4, 1806 for the Archbishop of Dublin Charles Agar, 1st Viscount Somerton .
Subordinate title
The 1st Earl had already been raised to Viscount Somerton , of Somerton in the County of Kilkenny on December 29, 1800 , and Baron Somerton , of Somerton in the County of Kilkenny on June 12, 1795 , both in the Peerage of Ireland .
His grandson, the 3rd Earl, was raised to Baron Somerton , of Somerley in the County of Hampshire in the Peerage of the United Kingdom on April 9, 1873 .
The 6th Earl also inherited on December 22, 1974 the title created on August 13, 1794 in the Peerage of Great Britain for an ancestor 9th Baron Mendip , of Mendip in the County of Somerset .
