Francis Baring, 1st Baron Northbrook

Baron Northbrook , of Stratton in the County of Southampton , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

The family seat of the barons was Stratton Park in East Stratton, Hampshire until 1963 .

Award

The title was created on January 4, 1866 by Letters patent for the liberal politician and Chancellor of the Exchequer Sir Francis Baring, 3rd Baronet . He came from the Baring family and had inherited the title of Baronet , of the City of London in 1848 from his father Thomas Baring (1772-1848) , who on May 11, 1793 in the Baronetage of Great Britain his grandfather Francis Baring (1740-1810 ) was awarded. His elder son, the 2nd Baron, was also raised to Earl of Northbrook and Viscount Baring , of Lee in the County of Kent on June 10, 1876 . These titles expired on the death of his son, the 2nd Earl, on January 12, 1929. The title of baron fell to the eldest son of his father's younger half-brother, as the 4th Baron. Today's title holder has been his grandson Francis Baring as the 6th Baron since 1990 .
