Earl of Traquair
Earl of Traquair was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Scotland .
The family seat of the Earls was the eponymous Traquair House in the Scottish Borders region.
Award and history of the title
The title was created on June 23, 1633 by King Charles I for the lawyer and politician John Stewart, 1st Lord Stewart of Traquair , together with the subordinate title Lord Linton and Caberston . He had already been raised in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia to Baronet , of Traquair in the County of Peebles and on April 29, 1628 to Lord Stewart of Traquair at the latest .
The titles expired on the death of his great-great-great-grandson, the 8th Earl, on August 2, 1861.
