Earl of Upper Ossory
Earl of Upper Ossory was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Ireland .
Award and history of the title
The title was created on October 5, 1751 for John FitzPatrick, 2nd Baron Gowran . Already in 1727 inherited the subordinate title of Baron Gowran from his father , which was awarded to him on April 27, 1715 in the Peerage of Ireland.
His son, the 2nd Earl, was also raised to Baron Upper Ossory , of Ampthill in the County of Bedford, on August 9, 1794 in the Peerage of Great Britain . When this earl died on February 13, 1818, leaving no legitimate sons, all three titles became extinct.
