Earle Dickson

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Earle Dickson ( October 10, 1892 - September 21, 1961 ) was an American who invented the first -aid bandage (the Band-Aid brand ).

Dickson worked as a cotton buyer for the Johnson & Johnson company . His wife often cut herself while doing housework. Dickson noted that if a strip of gauze was taped onto the wound, it would not stick permanently to the finger. In 1920 he attached the gauze bandage to the center of the tape and covered it with a layer of tulle for protection . His boss James Johnson liked the idea and decided to market it. He made his buyer Dickson the company's vice president.

In 2017 he was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame .
