Earth Observing System

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Earth Observing System ( EOS , English for ' Earth Observation System ') is a NASA research program that includes a number of artificial satellites with scientific instruments in Earth orbit . These earth observation satellites enable long-term explorations of the land surface, the biosphere , the atmosphere and the oceans . The program was started in 1997 and is part of NASA's Earth Science Enterprise project . The data are processed within the framework of the Earth Observing System Data and Information System  (EOSDIS).
