East Kowloon Corridor is the name of a highway in Kowloon , Hong Kong . The four-lane road runs from the end of the Kai-Tak tunnel near Sung Wong Toi Road to the connection with Ma Tau Wai Road in Hung Hom , where both roads are replaced by Chatham Road.

This freeway, along with the Kai Wak Tunnel (opened a year later), has played an important role in preventing traffic congestion in Kowloon since it was completed in 1981 , as it provides a direct link between Hung Hom and Kwun Tong and the bottlenecks in To Kwa Wan , Mong Kok , Kowloon City and Ngau Chi Wan bypasses. The intersection-free and traffic light-free road connection has only two exits.

The road runs as a flyover over Kowloon City Road and Ma Tau Wai Road. The only exit to the north is just before the entrance to the Kai-Tak tunnel and leads north onto Kowloon CIty Road and southwards eastwards onto San Shan Road, from where a driveway to the East Kowloon Corridor southwards consists.

Although called the East Kowloon Corridor, the street is in the West Kowloon District . The name East has its origin in the distinction to the West Kowloon Corridor further west , which is located at Lai Chi Kok . In addition, To Kwa Wan and Hung Hom were located in the eastern half of the Kowloon Peninsula at the beginning of the British colonial era . Since the development dates back to before the construction of the motorway, the houses are very close to the route and the residents, especially on the lower floors, complain of noise , especially during rush hour .
