East of Eden (band)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

East of Eden was a rock band founded in 1967 in Bristol ( England ) by Dave Arbus (violin, saxophone, flute, trumpet, vocals) and Ron Caines (saxophone, piano) . Other members of the first line-up were Geoff Nicholson (guitar, vocals) and Geoff Britton (drums), who later played with Paul McCartney's Wings . East of Eden was one of the first bands to use the violin as a supporting instrument in rock music .

In 1971 the song Jig-A-Jig , which they had already recorded two years earlier, unexpectedly reached seventh place on the British charts. In the same year violinist Dave Arbus was heard on the song Baba O'Riley by The Who .

After many line-up changes, the band broke up in 1978. The founding members reunited in 1997.
