history

On August 1, 1981, Batticaloa University College was founded as the forerunner of Eastern University. As early as 1978, through the commitment of LW Devanayagam, the government passed a resolution to build a university in the buildings of the Vantharumoolai Madhya Maha Vidyalayam School, which was destroyed in a hurricane , in order to enable higher educational qualifications in eastern Sri Lanka. Furthermore, new buildings for student dormitories and staff rooms were built. On October 1, 1986, Eastern University, Sri Lanka was launched.

The Trincomalee Campus was founded in April 1993 as the Trincomalee Affiliated University College (AUC) and joined Eastern University on June 15, 2001 as the Trincomalee Campus of the Eastern University. The Swami Vipulananda Institute of Aesthetic Studies (SVIAS) at Batticaloa has belonged to Eastern University since January 2002, but was then still called the Swami Vipulananda College of Music and Dance (SVCMD).

Several new faculties have been established at the locations since the company was founded .
